Some Dryer repair facts:

  • Dryers have 1-2 fuses that will turn off the heater if the internal temperature gets too hot.  
    This helps prevent fires.  On some dryers this fuse is resettable
  • A clogged vent could cause a dryer to overheat and cause a brand new dryer to fail
  • Some dryers have a safety switch that turns off the dryer if the belt breaks.  The dryer will
    appear dead when all it needs is a belt
  • A simple door switch will also cause a dryer to go dead. This is another safety feature since
    an open door on a running dryer is considered dangerous
  • If nothing happens when you turn on your dryer first check the circuit breaker
Dryer maintenance and efficiency tips:
     
  • Always clean your lint filter.  Obvious but too important not to mention
  • Hardware and appliance parts store sell a flexible brush to clean inside the lint filter
    compartment.
  • Clean the venting that goes outside every 1-2 years.  Hold your hand to the outside
    exhaust vent while the dryer is running.  If the airflow is weak it is time to have your vents
    cleaned.
  • Dryers are designed to vent 10-15ft with only 2-3 bends
  • Shorten any flexible venting that may coiled up behind the dryer.  Only leave enough to
    pull the dryer out .
